Quick 60-Second Screen Share Check
Getting Ready for Our Session: A Quick 60-Second Screen Share Check!
I am so excited to work with you! If you haven't used Google Meet before—or if you've never shared your screen on it—here is a quick 60-second test to make sure your computer settings are good to go. Taking a moment to check this now ensures we can jump right into our session without any tech delays!
Step 1: Open Your Meeting Link
Google Meet allows you to test your settings before anyone else joins the room.
Open your calendar and find the event invitation for our upcoming session.
Click the Google Meet link inside that invitation (it will look something like ://google.com).
This opens your pre-meeting dashboard. Look near the bottom of the screen and click Check your audio and video.
This drops you into a private "Green Room" where you can safely test everything before our call.
Step 2: Test the Screen Share Feature
Look at the toolbar at the bottom of the screen.
Click the Present now icon (it looks like a square with an upward-pointing arrow).
Select A window or A tab from the menu.
Click on the specific window or tab you want to show, and click Share.
👉 If you see your screen sharing successfully: You are all set! You can simply close the browser window. I can't wait to see you at our session!
👉 If the share button is greyed out, or you get an error message: No worries at all! This just means your computer's built-in security settings are doing their job. Proceed to Step 3 to quickly unlock it.
Step 3: Fast Fixes for Computer Permissions
🍏 For Apple Mac Users
Macs have excellent built-in security that blocks screen sharing by default until you say it's okay.
Click the Apple icon in the top-left corner of your screen and select System Settings (or System Preferences).
Click Privacy & Security in the left menu.
Scroll down and click on Screen Recording.
Find your web browser (like Google Chrome or Safari) in the list and flip the toggle switch to ON. (You may need to enter your computer password to allow this).
Important: Fully close your browser and reopen it so the new settings can kick in!
🪟 For Windows Users
Windows usually allows screen sharing automatically, but background apps can sometimes get in the way.
Make sure other video apps (like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Webex) are completely closed so they aren't competing for your screen.
If the button still won't click, simply restart your web browser.
Tip: Google Meet works best on the Google Chrome browser!
Quick Tips for Our Call
Please use a laptop or desktop computer, as screen sharing is much easier to manage than on a phone or tablet.
Close any personal tabs or private documents before we start so you don't accidentally share anything confidential.
See you very soon!
