Portland, Maine Headshot Session with Rachel

Rachel and I originally met at a Maine Women in Business gathering, which led to a wonderful partnership where I led a Moon Circle for her community, Portland Women Social Circle. I was thrilled when she recently dyed her hair a vibrant pink and reached out for an updated portrait session to capture her new look.

For Portland, Maine headshot photography, I tend to attract clients who love natural light and true candids that capture authentic personality over staged studio setups. While this was strictly a headshots session, we approached it with the variety of a personal branding shoot to give Rachel options for the multiple hats she wears in the world.

We spent a few hours exploring downtown Portland during magic hour, relying entirely on available natural light and creative positioning. Shooting on a Canon EOS R5 with a 50mm lens at a shallow depth of field kept Rachel crisp and in focus while turning the urban backdrops into soft, glowing color palettes. From neutral textures near City Hall to dark brick entryways (and we even wandered down to Luke’s Lobster’s colorful wall of lobster traps and buoys…when in Maine!), we built a versatile image library for her work as an actress, producer, and community leader.

Thank you, Rachel, for having me as your photographer. Here is a sneak peek of some favorites! - Avi
